STANLEY WHARTON Obituary (2021) – Norwood, MA

WHARTON, Stanley David, 67, of Norwood, passed away on Wednesday September 1, 2021, peacefully at home with his wife and daughters by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stanley was born in Arlington, the son of the late Stanley and Gilberte Roy Wharton. He graduated from Arlington High School, Northeastern University, and received his High-Tech MBA from the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. Stanley worked as an engineer for Teledyne for over twenty years. He has enjoyed monthly breakfasts with his colleagues for forty years, a testament to the lasting relationships he has established. He then worked in the field of medical devices for the next 23 years. Stanley has held a number of positions, including Director of Project Management to Vice President of Quality Assurance, and has worked for Waters Corporation, Abbott, Instrument Labs and Medica. He was known for his work ethic, integrity, dignity and leadership. His calm but tenacious demeanor was admirable as he always sought solutions for the good of all. Stanley was eager to help others and identified opportunities to lend a helping hand. He volunteered as a board member and chair of the Boston Medical Development Group membership committee, and served as a board member and adult volunteer coordinator for the Norwood Food Pantry. He has spent countless hours volunteering his many skills, such as handyman work and household repairs, establishing and maintaining databases and schedules. Stanley was an avid sailor and held a captain’s license and an ASA sailing instructor’s license. He had traveled extensively for his career and vacations in Europe, Australia, Israel and had sailed the Caribbean. Recently, he and his wife traded their love of sea-to-land travel with the purchase of a motorhome. Together they have explored many national parks and campgrounds and made many visits to their grandchildren over the summer. He was delighted to cheer them on at sporting events, spend quality time together and celebrate milestone events. Stanley was a spiritual man and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Norwood. Stanley made friends everywhere he went and there are many wonderful ways to make the world a better place for his family and friends. He was easy going, unperturbed and his family rock through and through. Stanley approached all things in life with a sense of humor, persistence and immense patience. He was generous with his time and extremely compassionate. Stanley has touched many lives with his caring spirit. Stanley was the beloved husband of Katherine Rennie Wharton, with whom he cherished twenty years of marriage; devoted father of Colleen and her husband Todd Cassler, Sandra and her husband Jason Beaver; the devoted father-in-law of Nicolas Sousa and his wife Jess, and Heather Sousa; steadfast and loving brother of Jane Marie Wharton; proud Grampy of Mackenzie, Davis, Gavin, Kiley, Miles and Quincy; darling son-in-law of Emily and the late Doug Rennie of NJ. Survived by many cousins ​​Roy and Wharton and great friends. Visitations will be on Thursday, September 9 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, (Route 1A), NOROWOOD. Funeral services will be held at Grace Church, 150 Chapel Street, Norwood, on Friday September 10 at 11 a.m. The family ask that guests please wear a mask during visits and services.
