Buses, SkyTrain or SeaBus will be free from 5 p.m. on December 31 to 5 a.m. on January 1.

“Providing free and safe transportation on New Years Eve is a long-standing tradition at TransLink,” said Kevin Quinn, CEO of TransLink, in a statement.

“Although restrictions prevented us from offering this last year, we are delighted to bring this tradition back and encourage all those celebrating 2022 to choose public transit to get home safely.”

TransLink ended free rides on New Years Eve, saying the annual schedule was not in line with public health measures to reduce social gatherings.

But the popular benefit is back this year. TransLink said fare gates will remain open between allotted hours, so passengers do not need to use their Compass card or any other payment method.

However, customers who access the system before 5:00 p.m. should opt out to ensure they are being billed at the correct rate.

TransLink said it will operate regular weekday bus schedules, but will add additional routes in the evenings and for late night service.

The SkyTrain and SeaBus will operate regularly during the week. The last SeaBus from the North Coast will be at 1:00 a.m. and from the Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver at 1:22 a.m.

West Coast Express will operate on a modified schedule on weekdays, with westbound trips at 5:25 am, 6:25 am, 6:55 am, 7:25 am and eastbound trips at 1:30 pm, 3:50 pm, 4: 50h, 18h20
