World’s largest cargo plane, the Mriya, destroyed in Ukraine by Russian forces

KIEV: Ukraine’s flag carrier, the An-225 Mriya, the world’s largest cargo plane, has been destroyed by Russian forces, according to Ukroboronprom, Ukraine’s state military company. The plane was shot down by Russian troops near Kiev’s Hostomel airport on Sunday, according to Ukroboronprom.

Restoration of the plane will cost more than $3 billion and will take a long time, according to the report. The An-225 Mriya, which was designed in the 1980s, is the longest and heaviest aircraft in the world. It was capable of carrying up to 640 tons of cargo, according to reports.

Ukraine will send a delegation for talks with Russia on the Belarusian border:- Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia have agreed to hold talks along the Pripyat River on the border between Belarus and Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The decision to hold the talks was reportedly taken during a phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Sunday.

According to the Ukrainian presidential office, “Lukashenko has assumed responsibility for ensuring that all planes, helicopters and missiles stationed on Belarusian soil remain on the ground during the visit, the talks and the return of the Ukrainian delegation”.
